Press release 29.11.2022
A three-day trade fair bash was launched at Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre today with the Konepaja Engineering Works Trade Fair for the metal industry, Nordic Welding Expo, the largest welding industry exhibition in the Nordic countries, and 3D & New Materials, an event dedicated to 3D printing and new materials. On the opening day, the Welding Society of Finland rewarded successful experts of the industry and inaugurated the Finnish Welding Championship with the finals taking place on Thursday. Visitors to the trade fairs are welcomed by 257 exhibitors between 29 November–1 December 2022.
Konepaja Engineering Works Trade Fair, the number one event for machinery and equipment in the metal industry, and Nordic Welding Expo, the largest welding, joining and cutting trade fair event in the Nordic countries, started today. The duo of events stormed the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre with the spirit of modern engineering works, the main topics being cutting-edge machinery, up-to-date engineering workshop, and bold investments. Machinery and equipment are literally on display, after a four-year gap. People have been awaiting encounters between industry experts, the sharpest businesses, and future talents.
– Finally, after so many years of waiting, all machines are in the shop! Our event at Tampere enables genuine experiences of new machinery, encounters with partners and new talents, and getting to know technologies and service solutions. It is a modern workshop with cutting-edge machinery and all senses, as one can really smell the scent of metal working here, tips the project manager for the events, Sami Siurola of Tampere Trade Fairs Group.

The Welding Society of Finland rewarded successes and will crown the Finnish Champion on Thursday
The Welding Society of Finland (SHY ry) rewarded skilled experts on the first day of the trade fair. The recognition Vuoden hitsaushuippu – Top Welder of the Year was awarded to skilled industry experts in three categories: welding companies, welding research, development, and inspection units, and welding training organizations. The number one welding company prize went to Speweld Service Oy, for their top-level achievement in welding development and delivery of integrated projects and maintenance services. The honorary certificate was received by Quality Manager Michael Kraus and Project Manager Tuomo Hoikkanen. The recognition for a welding inspection institute was awarded to PäteWin for developing trainer networking, and YA Vocational College of Ostrobothnia, Närpiö unit, was elected as the top welding training organization for being the only Swedish-language educational institution to train international IW welders since 2010. The honorary certificate for Lasertyöstetty huipputuote – Top Laser Machined Product, awarded for the first time, went to Metso Outotec Oyj’s laser welding of a filter frame and was received by Jere Nykänen and Mika Naukkarinen. The recognition from SHY’s Laser Forum aims to highlight products that utilise various methods of laser-assisted machining to achieve cost savings, higher quality, or other competitive edge. The awards and honorary certificates were presented by the upcoming chair of SHY’s board, Reetta Verho of Kemppi Oy, Marketing Manager Mikko Aarnio of Pemamek Oy as a representative of the award sponsors, and Sales Director Jani Maja of Tampere Trade Fairs Group. SHY ry also gave out honorary certificates and stipends to some of the best articles published in the Welding Technology magazine. Metal industries in the spirit of time and shop, looking into the future
Konepaja allows you to experience the new era of industry: responsible, illuminated, and modern. On the opening day, Tuesday, a panel discussion on Bold and responsible investments is held to provide insights into the global economy and financial markets. The seminar Industrial future of Pirkanmaa, held on 30.11., ponders the future of manufacturing industries. On Wednesday, the trade fair offers a fascinating keynote by the nonfiction writer Antti Merilehto, Human-machine interaction, and on Thursday, an inspiring talk by Ilkka Halava, Risk, boldness and transformation of structures. On Thursday, Finnish Advanced Manufacturing Network (FAMN) explain how they help manufacturing industry companies to utilise data and to promote sustainability themes. Winners of the Plootu Fennica sheet metal product competition by Technology Industries of Finland are on display at stand A631. The competition, which had its finals at the Ohutlevypäivät sheet metal conference in May, searched for new kinds of products where sheet metal plays a key role in the design, manufacturing technique, structure, or innovation. Sheet metal product awards were presented in three categories: design, industry, and education.
