In March 2026, the doors of the Tampere Sports & Expo will open a gateway to the heart of the mechanical engineering industry as Konepaja celebrates its 10-year anniversary. Over the years, the event has grown into a major meeting place where professionals, technologies, and innovations come together. The anniversary year offers a chance to look back, but above all, to look ahead.
Konepaja was first organized in response to the need to bring together the expertise and solutions of Finland’s mechanical engineering industry. The goal was to create a forum where companies could network, find new partners, and see where the industry is heading.
“Back when the first fair was held in 2016, we were in a somewhat similar situation to today. Due to weak economic conditions, investments had been cut back, and competitiveness had weakened. New ideas, new kinds of capacity and production technology, and also courage were needed. The Konepaja trade fair then, just as now, offered an excellent opportunity to explore the offerings of leading industry players and new ideas all at once,” recalls Jan Sucksdorff, Lead Expert at the Association of Finnish Technical Traders.
Jan Sucksdorff sees signs of better times in the current economic situation:
“There are now positive signs in the economy as well, and the situation in industry is gradually improving. However, overall uncertainty is still reflected in cautious investment decisions, and there are still challenges in financing. Recovery elsewhere in Europe has been faster than in Finland, and at some point this may still surprise those who are still considering equipment investments.”
The machine shop of the future is no longer just a production facility, but a smart ecosystem where automation, robotics, and data-driven manufacturing work hand in hand. At the same time, sustainability requirements are guiding material choices and energy efficiency. Konepaja offers a place to see solutions in practice and to discuss how the industry can renew itself.
“Over the past 10 years, Konepaja has earned the number one position in production technology within Finland’s trade fair offering. It has showcased everything needed across the entire production chain: materials, software, machines, fixtures, tools, fluids, automation solutions, as well as measuring devices and machines,” summarizes Petri Järvinen, Chairman of the Metalworking Machine Division at the Association of Finnish Technical Traders and Product Portfolio and Purchasing Director at Cron-Tek Oy.
“In addition to cutting-edge technology, customers have also been offered a welcoming forum for discussion. This is an opportunity to exchange ideas with product sellers, representatives of manufacturers, colleagues, and partners, and to gain new thoughts and ideas for developing their own production to become even more competitive,” Järvinen continues.
Konepaja will once again be held together with the Nordic Welding and 3D Expo events. Together they form a comprehensive whole that provides a broad view of the future of manufacturing industry in a single visit.
